ZERO NET ENERGY:
The Passivhaus energy standard has been used in Europe successfully and cost effectively for over a decade on both commercial and residential buildings, new construction and retrofits. Over 10,000 buildings modeled, designed, and constructed to this standard have yielded reductions in heating and cooling energy use of around 90% and overall energy use reductions of around 75%. Many have gone further, adding onsite renewable regeneration to achieve carbon neutral or zero emission buildings. From an energy perspective, the standard is the missing link between LEED Platinum and the Zero Net Energy Living Building Challenge.
Our Panel will consist of the following:
Prudence Ferreira, Founder and Principal of Integral Impact Inc., is a green building, energy, and green business consultant with a special emphasis on Zero Net Energy building. She is VP of the USGBC Redwood Empire Chapter and on the Steering Committee of Passive Buildings California. She is a LEED AP, LEED for Homes Rater, GreenPoint Rater, Certified Passivhaus Consultant, Certified Permaculture Designer, CBPCA/BPI-trained Building Peformance Analyst, Title 24 HERS I, II + PV Rater and Certified Energy Plans Examiner.
Andy Thompson, M.Arch, is the visionary behind the carbon neutral “miniHOME” concept, a concept born of his lifelong passion for “reducing entropy” in architectural design by making smarter, more “eco-physiological” architecture and infrastructure design. He has taught BIM (Building Information Modeling) to university students internationally, and has consulted and lectured on BIM for a wide range of commercial design firms in the US, Canada, and the UK. His work has been recognized internationally and published widely in books, magazines, television, and radio features, and has recently found allies and supporters such as Oprah Winfrey and David Suzuki, among thousands of other architects and design professionals. He is currently working with Healthy Buildings USA in Napa on innovative projects including a zero net energy development called Vineyard Oaks.
Graham Irwin has worked in the construction industry as a building scientist and designer, contractor and carpenter since 1991. He is a certified Passive House Consultant, a LEED AP, a Build It Green certified Green Building Professional, a certified Professional Building Designer, and a licensed general contractor. He is a co-founder partner in Zero Impact Architecture.
James Bill, M.Arch, is a co-founder partner of Zero Impact Architecture, LEED AP and certified Green Building Professional through Build It Green and NARI. He is a founding member of Passive Buildings California and has lectured on zero energy design at the annual West Coast Green conference.
All of these speakers have a wealth of knowledge on the green energy industry. The Passivhaus System is an alternative to Solar Energy.
Come join us for an exciting and informative panel.
